We’re just three weeks into 2026 and it’s already been a hell of a year, full of stressors and other distractions — so the chances are good that there are Tenderloin residents who missed the memo and won’t be expecting this outage.

The affected area is bounded roughly by Gough Street to the west, Turk Street to the north, Hyde Street to the east, and Mission Street to the south, according to a map published by PG&E.
The company is cutting the power as part of their process to repair their Mission District substation, which was damaged by a fire in December, causing a massive unplanned outage that affected more than 130,000 people. The incident sparked widespread anger against the utility, and reinvigorated a long-running public discussion about San Francisco buying PG&E’s electrical infrastructure and putting it under city management, Mission Local reported.
Next month the Board of Supervisors will likely hold a public hearing with PG&E, “where affected residents and business owners can raise concerns about response and claims with company representatives,” KQED reported.
