Mine is a community of misfits and outlaws
Thankfully, the people have their own notions about how their lives should be.
The Tenderloin Voice is a newsroom serving San Francisco's Tenderloin community and was built in collaboration with residents. We practice a model of journalism that shares editorial power with audiences.
We do this by:
We launched the Voice in January 2026 to help the Tenderloin have its say, in a media and political environment that is seldom fair to it and the people who live and work here.
The Voice is run by Noah Arroyo, Daphne Magnawa, and Laura Wenus. The three of us founded News Relay Network, publisher of the Voice.
Noah and Laura are both longtime local journalists who have spent most of their careers at publications like Mission Local, the San Francisco Public Press, and the San Francisco Chronicle. Daphne is an organizer with experience in newsroom operations and development.

The Voice publishes a zine, which we distribute in the neighborhood by hand.
We also publish online, which means many things. News stories can be found on this site, of course, but you can also get our stories by email newsletter. We are looking into distribution via text message (SMS and WhatsApp) as well as establishing a presence on various social media.
